Our mission

Our mission

We Got Us is a Boston-based student-led (high school, college, and graduate level) grassroots coalition committed to combating racism in our communities through increasing access to equitable healthcare, community-centered health education, and direct healing.

Our Pillars

To fellowship in community, learn in community, and get through this pandemic in community because “We Got Us.”

WGU believes that our communities must have access to clear and accessible health information to fight against systemic racism and to become agents of their health. We promote this through our empowerment sessions, appointment empowerment kits, community advocacy teach-ins, and health policy briefs among other resources

Education

WGU actively works in our communities to increase access to healthcare. We promote this through our community-led research, which prioritizes the questions our community seeks to answer and create solutions rooted in their concerns. We also promote this pillar by bringing accurate health info directly to community events such as farmer's markets, parades, festivals, and more! If you want We Got Us as your next event, please contact us here.

Access

We view our healing pillar as emblematic of our overarching goal to support our community as we recover and rebuild from the trauma inflicted by centuries of racism and systemic oppression. Therefore, WGU works to support local community organizers and groups to testify for local hearings related to the promotion of health equity and mitigating the sociopolitical determinants of health.  WGU also promotes direct healing of our community through our initiatives, such as the Small Steps Project, which provides free acupuncture and holistic healing methods free to community members across the greater Boston region.

We Got Us seeks to become a national model for sustainable co-led organizing, between students and community organizations, to promote health equity and racial justice through community healing, public health, and policy. We also seek to mentor and mold the next generation of leaders in healthcare and public health, who will be champions for social justice, health equity, and antiracism.

our vision

We Got Us is always looking for new talent to contribute to our mission of promoting healing and antiracism. Whether you’re a pre-Health student, long-time community organizer, or artist, we would love to find ways to collaborate or bring you to our team!
